Your Magic is mine! A guide to spellstealing.

This is a guide about one of the most versatile and useful spells in the mage's arsenal, Spellsteal. Now, unless you have been living under a rock or in the Dalaran Sewers teaching people how to make Alcoholic drinks. Spellsteal is a spell (Brilliant deduction) that steals (again, Brillaint deduction) magical buffs from hostile enemies. The drawback is it's duration, all magical buffs have a maximum duration of 2 minutes. You can steal as many spells as you want though and in many cases it does not only help you, but also it many help the rest of your group. As they say, knowledge is power, so knowing what to steal is key when using this spell.
Some buffs many not be useful for you, but getting them removed from the caster can make things easier for the tank or the healer.
This guide will cover Wrath Dungeons and Raids.

Utgarde Keep

Bolthorn's Rune of Flame
Deals 1619 to 1881 (3238 to 3762, in Heroic) Fire damage to enemies within 10 yards. Procs every 2 seconds
Casted by: Dragonflayer Runecaster
Usefulness: 4/5
Duration: 8 Seconds
Stacks: N
Note: This spell will just Aoe down mostly anything on it's path, Although it last 8 seconds which means you will have 4 ticks before it expires, it's really useful and keep the group from recieving significant damage from it.

Njord's Rune of Protection
A magical runeshield that protects the target from 50000 (100000, in heroic) Damage for 8 seconds.

Usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 8 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: Although it's a shield, removing it prevents the hostile mob to be kept alive longer than intended. Note the huge amount of damage that the shield actually absorbs. Getting hold of it is better to hasten things up.


The Nexus

Bloodlust
Increases the ally's attack speed by 30% for 30 seconds. (Same effect on heroic)
Casted by: Allance/Horde Berserker
Usefulness: 2/5
Duration: 30 seconds.
Stacks: N
Note: Even though there is no actual use for it, on you, stealing it might make things easier for the healer. It's upto the mage's choice if he wants to steal it or not. This haste ONLY affects Melee attacks.

Power Word: Shield
A magical shield that Absorbs 274 (548, in heroic) damage for 30 seconds. Spells can't be interrupted under the effect of this shield.

Note: Don't even bother.

Aura of Arcane Haste
Increases the casting speed of the caster by 15% and spell damage by 150 for 1 minutes (50% and 500SP(!!!), in heroic)

Usefulness: 5+/5
Duration: 1 minute
Stacks: N
Note: You must spell steal this buff, it does not only benefit you but also as it is an aura it benefits the whole group with it. Keep your eyes on this mob and steal his delicious buff off him.

Renew
Heals the target by 60 every 3 second for 15 seconds (Same effect on heroic)
Casted by: Mage hunter Initiate
Usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 15 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: This spell stacks with Spell power, so the heal might be higher than stated above. This will just hasten things up when doing the instance.

Crystal Bark
A layer of Crystal bark that will damage enemies for 200 arcane damage and has a chance to stun them from 3 seconds when struck. (same effect in heroic)

Note: The stun itself is just the only reason you might want to remove this off him. They will recast this spell often though so it's upto the mage if he wants to steal it or not.

Toughen Hide
Increases the caster's Armor by 3000 and it's magical resistance by 60 for 15 seconds (same effect in heroic)

Dutation: 15 seconds

Note: Resistances = Less damage done to the target. So think about it.

Mana Shield
A protective shield that absorbs 240 Damage. Takes 2 mana per point of damage. (30000 damage, 1 Mana per point of damage)

Usefulness: 0/5 (on normal) 3/5 (On heroic)
Duration: 1 Minute
Stacks: N
Note: On normal, don't even bother. On heroic, it will be better if you do steal it because you kill this guy faster.


Crystal bloom
Increases the damage done by 2% (same effect in heroic)
Casted by: Crystalline Frayer
Usefulness: 4/5
Dutation: 30 seconds
Stacks: Y, 15 stacks max. (a Grand total of 30%)
Note: This guys will cast this buff as soon as they Agroo, and plus they are everywhere. Steal a couple of their buffs and nuke away.

Azjol Nerub

Sadly, no benefitial buffs to be stolen.

Old Kingdom

Icy Winds
Winds that slows your spellcasting by 50% but increases the damage done by frost spells by 75%. (Same effect in heroic)
Casted by: Frostbringer
Usefulness: 5+/5 ( for frost) 4.5/5 (for the other specs)
Duration: 2 minutes (This spell has been made to be stolen)
Stacks: N
Note: Steal this buff, and you will probably be able to fight global warming at the same time you are destroying things in this instance. This buff is INSANE for frost mages, take 2 of this buff and call me in the morning. Make sure to Dispell this if you are going to engage in single target combat though.

Bloodlust
Increases the ally's attack speed by 30% for 10 seconds (same effect in heroic)
Casted by: Twilight Apostle
Usefulness: 4/5
Duration: 10 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: Hastens your spellcasting, which is a good thing by default, and slowers theirs by not having the buff. This affects all actions.

Lightning Shield
A shield of nature that causes 2 (affected by SP) nature damage when struck. Lasts 10 minutes of when the 3 charges have been used. (1600 nature damage, lasts 10 minutes and has 10 charges in heroic)

usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 10 minutes, due to Spellsteal it lasts 2 minutes.

Note: Any damage that can be prevented is good in my book.


Drak'tharon Keep

Unholy Frenzy
Increases the ally's attack speed by 30% for 15 seconds and inflicts 232 to 268 Shadow damage every 2 seconds.

Usefulness: 1/5
Duration: 15 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: I don't know why would you want to steal it, but if you do.. I suggest you dispell the buff afterwards.
This haste ONLY affects melee.


Gundrak

Earth Shield
A Shield of Nature that heals when Struck by a melee attack. Heals for 1388 to 1612 (2775 to 3225, in heroic).
Casted by: Drakkari Medicine Man
Usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 10 Minutes. 2 Minutes due to Spellsteal
Stacks: Y. 6 Charges.
Note: Remove a shield and remove the good doctor out of the equation.

Violet Hold

Arcane Empowerment
Increases melee, movement, casting, ranged speed by 50% (same effect in heroic)
Casted by: Azure Mage Slayer
Usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 10 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: They Spawn in the portals when they are opened by Portal Guardians/Keepers. This Buff is useful, but it's duration is the big drawback of it.

Earth Shield
A shield that heals the target when struck by a melee attack. Heals by 879 to 1021 and has 20 charges. Last 2 minutes. (heals by 3238 to 3762, in heroic*)
Casted by: Erekem (And Arakkoa Windwalker in case of a wipe in heroic mode)
Usefulness: 3/5*
Duration: 2 minutes
Stacks: Y, it has 20 stacks.
Note: You can spell steal this in Normal mode Only. In heroic you can't, too bad.

Bloodlust
Increases Melee, Casting, ranged speeds by 35% (same effect in heroic)
Casted by: Erekem
Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 20 seconds.
Stacks: N
Note: Steal this fake poser and make a good use out of it.

Shroud of Darkness
You are covered in darkness, when damaged the attacker gains a 20% (30%, in heroic) healing debuff.
Casted by: Zuramat the Obliterator (or Void lord, in case of a wipe in heroic mode)
Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 10 seconds
Stacks: Y, 4 times.
Note: This is the one of the few spells that are worth stealing, you will never have to stop the DPS and your healer will be greetful in the end.


Halls of Stone

Arcane Haste
Increases Casting speed by 50% (Same in heroic)
Casted by: Dark Rune Elementalist
Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 30 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: This will just make you the fastest caster in the wild Kalimdor.

Lightning Shield (I)
A shield made of shiwrly balls of lightning, deals 650 (1800, in heroic) Nature damage.It has 3 charges.
Casted by: Dark Rune Elementalist
Usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 10 minutes. Due to spellsteal, 2 minutes.
Stacks: Y, 3 Stacks.
Note: Any Damage that can be pre... you know the drill already.

Runic Intellect
Increases the targets intelect by 200 it's spell hit rating by 50. (same deal in heroic)

Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 2 minutes

Note: HAH! Beat that Stephen Hawking. Man, I want to be taught by the Dark Rune Dwarfs now.

Iron Might
Increases Damage dealt by 15% (Same deal in heroic, as well)
Casted by: Dark Rune Theurgist
Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 1 Minute
Stacks: N
Note: This buff applies to all damage. Use it well.

Lightning Shield (II)
A Shield of lightning balls, deals 1000 (3000, in heroic) nature damage. It has 10 charges.
Casted by: Sjonnir The Ironshaper
Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 10 Minutes. 2 Minutes with Spell Steal.
Stacks: Y, 10 of them.
Note: Removing the shield will just cut 65% of all the damage this boss can do. Plus you can use it to nuke the adds when they get angry at you f

Culling of Stratholme

Vampiric Touch
Heals the casted by half the damage done with a melee attack. (same deal in heroic)

Note: This Buff is not quite... an issue... Just focus on his weakspot to deal massive damage instead.

Trail of the Champion

Lightning Arrows
Enchants your Arrows with the power of Alternative Current, allowing them to deal extra 2828 to 3172 Nature damage.
(same deal in heroic)
Casted by: Jaelyne Evensong (Horde side) / Zul'tore (Alliance side)
Usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 2 Minutes
Stacks: N
Note: You are unable to use this buff, but removing it from the casters is useful since they won't deal that extra damage. Less Pain for the healer and the tank.


Earth Shield
A shield made of earth that heals the caster when struck by a melee attack. It has 10 charges.
Casted by: Colosos (Horde Side) / Runok Wildmane (Alliance Side)
Usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 2 minutes
Stacks: Y, 10.
Note: Less healing for him, less Hazzle for you.

Haste
Increases Attack and Casting speeds by 100% for 10 seconds (same deal in heroic)
Casted by: Ambrose Boltspark (Horde Side) / Eressea Dawnsinger (Alliance Side)
Usefulness: OFF THE CHARTS
Duration: 10 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: You are the Flash of WoW, you can cast so fast that... It's just insane. Also, you gain a few meters because of this. STEAL THIS. I command you to do it.

Renew
Heals the target for 17500 (22000 , in heroic) every 3 seconds.

Duration: 9 seconds

Note: See that amount healed? Pretty much you will in full HP almost the entire time you have this buff. Take it.

The Forge of Souls

Shield of Bones
A Shield made of Bones, Absrobs 5000 (10000, in heroic) damage. When it absobs that damage, it shatters dealing 5000 damage to nearby enemies.

Duration: 15 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: A shield made of bones that when it shatters it damages enemies around you. It can't get better.

Pit of Saron

No buff to steal here, move along.

Halls of Reflection

Move along.


The Occulus

Lightning Shield.
A Shield made of lightning balls. Deals 4 (8, in heroic) Nature Damage* when struck. It has 3 Charges (20 in heroic)
Casted by: Phantasmal Air
Usefulness: 2/5
Duration: 10 minutes. 2 minutes due to Spell steal.
Stacks: Y. 3 In normal and 20 in heroic.
Note: Without that shield, they will just melee your tank for nothing.
* Damage is based on Spell Damage, one would assume.

Bloodlust
Increases the Melee, Ranged and Spell Casting speed by 35% (same in heroic)
Casted by: Phantasmal Ogre
Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 20 Seconds
Stacks: N
Note: Same old Bloodlust, hammer those keybinds.

Charged Skin
You've become a living power generator. You deal 760 to 840(1520 to 1680, in heroic) Arcane damage every 3 seconds to nearby enemies.

Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 10 Minutes. 2 Minutes due to spell steal.
Stacks: N
Note: This is one of my Favorite spells to steal. Just steal it and stand in the middle of them, any additional AOE spell will make your life easier.

Enchantment of Spell Haste
Each time the caster casts a spell, you gain 10% haste for 30 seconds. (same in heroic)
Casted by: Snowflake
Usefulness: 2/5
Duration: 30 seconds
Stacks: Y, upto 20 stacks.
Note: The spell to steal is not the enchantment, but the actual buff that the snowflake gains after casting. Although they usually don't last very long.


Halls of Lightning

Renew
Heals the casted for 90 (180, in heroic)* Damage every 3 seconds.
Casted by: Stormforged Sentinel
Usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 15 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: No heal for them, more HP for you.
*Amount healed is probably based on Spell Power.

Afterburn
You are on fire, and ninjas can't catch you. Also it increases your melee crit chance by 50% (Same in heroic)

Note: If you want to steal it, steal it. But only Size matters.

Utgarde Pinnacle

Lycanthropy
You read Twilight so much that your facination turned into reality. You become a wolf for 15 seconds. (Same in heroic, sadly)

Usefulness: 0/5
Duration: 15 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: You have to steal it when he is Inmovilized. After that Buff ends, you become a wolf. Probably after that you could toss yourself into the closest bonfire for stealing this buff.

Bane
Deals 1414 to 1586 Shadow damage when struck. (Same in Heroic)

Duration: 5 Seconds

Note: Damage is based on Spell Power. You will be dealing that damage in AOE, instead of him. Also, if that happens you will
NOT get the achievement. Go figure.

Naxxramas

Millitary Wing.

Hysteria
Puts you into a killing frenzy, your Physical damage is increased by 40% but you lose 1% of your max HP per second.
(same thing happens in 25 man)

Note: The only use for it, to keep the hostile mobs from getting it. Aside from that, do me a favour and remove it when you
get it. Please.

Plague Wing.

Unholy Frenzy
Increases your Melee attack speed by 50% (100%, in 25 man)

Usefulness: 1/5
Duration: 20 seconds

Note: They are nothing, probably you won't even notice they casted this buff on someone. Plus the buff is not really useful.

Obsidian Sanctum.

No Spells can be fetched in this dark land.


Eye of Eternity

Haste
Remember Trial of the champion? Well, it's the same stuff. (And same effect in 25 man).

Antechamber of Ulduar

Shield of Runes
A shield made of Magical Runes, Absorbs 20000 (50000 in 25 man) damage. If the Shield absorbs that damage, the caster gains 50% damage done.

Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 15 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: Take into account that on this fight you are reciving damage the entire time. Getting the shield blow up by damage is trivial. And it comes with a damage buff which is sweet.


Thorim Arena.

Renew
Heals the target for 9263 to 9737 (13650 to 14350, in 25 man) every 3 seconds.

Usefulness: 4.5/5
Duration: 15 seconds

Note: That is 1/2 of your life healed every 3 seconds, and that is saying alot.

Runic Shield
A shiled made of runes, Absorbs 40000 (12000 in 25 man) damage and reduces Physical damage taken by 50%.

Usefulness: 5+/5
Duration: 1 Minute.
Stacks: N
Note: This shield is something that shall not be understimated. Absorbing 40000 magical damage on Thorim can save your rear many times. Use it wisely.

Runic Mending
Instantly heals the target for 6938 to 8062 (18500 to 21500 in 25 man) and for an additional 3000 (6000 in 25 man) per second.

Usefulness: 5/5
Duration: 15 seconds.
Stacks: N
Note: The actual spell stolen is the HoT that comes after the instant heal. Just combine the shield with this baby and you are pretty much a force to be recon with (it's not like you already weren't).

Freya's Groove.

Bind Life
You become rejuvenated, healing you for 9250 to 10750 (13875 to 16125 in 25 man) per second.

Usefulness: 4/5
Duration: 6 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: It's a pretty big heal, but the draw back is that the Nymph will cast her second spell as soon as you steal this.

Winter's Embrace
It's Getting cold in here, this shield Absorbs 75000 damage and increases your Physical Damage by 100%.

Usefulness: 5+/5
Duration: 1 Minute
Stacks: N
Note: Steal this over Bind life, you can nuke through that heal... this shield is just absurd.

Yogg'Saron's Prison.

Renew
A heal overtime, heals you for 180 every 3 seconds (same on heroic).
Casted by: Twilight Adherent
Usefulness: 4/5
Duration: 15 seconds.
Stacks: N
Note: This spell scales with Spell power. So the heal will be pretty big. One less heal from them, one more for you.


Trial of the Crusader.

Nether Power
You are infused with Nether power, granting you 20% damage done.
Casted by: Lord Jaraxxus
Usefulness: 5+/5
Duration: 30 seconds
Stacks: Y, Upto 10 times.
Note: This spell comes in stacks of 5 (10 in 25man). Steal it all and nuke Jaraxxus back to the Twisting Nether.

Bloodlust (Alliance) / Heroism (Horde)
Increases melee, ranged, and spell casting speed by 30% (Same in Heroic mode and 25 man)
Casted by: Broln Stouthorn and Thrakgar (Alliance) / Saamul and Shaabad (Horde)
Usefulness: 5+/5
Duration: 40 seconds
Stacks: Y, with the normal Bloodlust / Heroism effect.
Note: When you spellsteal this Effect, you DON'T get Sated. Steal this and burst these Alliance Dogs/Pigs or Horde Dogs/Pigs.

Avenging Wrath
You gain wings of wrath, increasing your damage and healing done by 20%.
Casted by: Malithas Brightblade (Alliance) / Baelnor Lightbearer (Horde)
Usefulness: 5+/5
Duration: 20 seconds
Stacks: N
Note: Remove those wings from those palies, they don't deserve them anyway.

Icecrown Citadel:

Lower Citadel

Vampiric Might
Too much Twilight made you shine like a true vampire, increasing your damage done by 25% and healing you by 300% of the damage done. (Same effect in 25 man and heroic modes)

Usefulness: 5+/5
Duration: 15 seconds
Note: Damage increase? Check. Heal on damage? Check. Burn down the place? Damn, that is the only thing this buff was missing.

Dark Blessing
Blessed by darkness, increases your Attack and casting speeds by 20%. (Same on heroic)
Casted by: Deathspeaker Disciple
Usefulness: 4/5
Duration: 15 seconds
Note: Not a bad spell to take off, just make a good use of it while you have it.

Rampart of Skulls

Earth Shield
A shield that is made of dirt, when struck by melee you get healed for 2250 to 3750. It has 10 charges.*
Casted by: Kor'kron Oracle (Alliance) / Skybreaker Luminary (Horde)
Usefulness: 3/5
Duration: 2 Minutes
Stacks: N
Note: Same ol shield, same effect. *The Value of the heal is modified by spell power.

Regrowth
Heals the Target for 6750 to 11250 (11250 to 18750 in 25 man) and for an additional 21000 (42000 in 25 man) over 21 seconds.
Casted by: Kor'kron Primalist (Alliance) / Skybreaker Hierophant (Horde)
Usefulness: 4.5/5.
Duration: 21 seconds.
Stacks: N.
Note: A massive heal over time, not bad at all.

Rejuvenation
Heals the target for 22500 (33750 in 25 man) over 15 seconds.
Casted by: Casted by: Kor'kron Primalist (Alliance) / Skybreaker Hierophant (Horde).
Usefulness: 4.5/5.
Duration: 15 seconds.
Stacks: N
Note: Another heal overtime, You love it.

Pain Suppression
Reduces all damage taken by 40%
Casted by: Kor'kron Templar (Alliance) / Skybreaker Vicar (Horde)
Usefulness: 4.5/5.
Duration: 8 Seconds.
Note: The faster you kill them, the faster you will reach the boat.

Extensive work, thumbs up for that. I couldn't help but notice you got Icy Winds wrong, though. It actually slows your casting speed.

You want him to write a huge list of every player buff and its effects in the game? I could start, I'm sure it would be very useful...
